MAKING WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Wednesday, October 24, 7:00 PM
UT Campus, ETC 2.108 (Dean Keeton and San Jacinto)
In July 2006, Israel invaded Lebanon. This war was fought by Israel but funded by the US
government. The Bush administration played a key role in the duration
and funding of the war, with the aim to change the course of history.
As Condoleezza Rice declared “We are witnessing the birth of a new Middle East.”
How was the decision to wage the July ’06 war on Lebanon made? What were the objectives? What was the role of the US government? What was the impact on the region 15 months later? Where and when will the next war be?
Come to a panel discussion addressing these questions and more. Speakers include:
Ziyad Doany: Recently returned from Lebanon
Uri Horesh: UT professor of Arabic, in Israel during the war
Yazan Al-Hasan: CAMEO member
Sponsored by Campus Antiwar Movement to End Occupations (CAMEO) and Palestine Solidarity Committee
