Texas State CAMEO (Campus Antiwar Movement to End the Occupations) meets every Wednesday evening at 7:00 at Derrick Hall Room 120.
We meet to discuss the various American occupations of the Middle East. Our goals include planning and fundraising for events with the purpose of demonstrating the popular anti-war sentiment in this country. We hope to educate students and community members about the current wars and to create a more visible and cohesive anti-war movement in Texas.

Petitioning elected officials and campaigning for politicians is not a stated group goal. Recent history of having a Democrat-controlled House and the continued so-called justifications ("I'm against this war, but I'm funding it to support the troops") has shown that politicians are unable to follow through with their obligation to the citizens and armed forces of our country to pull out of Iraq now.

Instead, we're working toward a citizen movement that will demonstrate to politicians and corporations our ability to organize ourselves against the acts of violence, discrimination, and imperialism that our nation is a part of in the Middle East. The theory is that a large, visible citizen movement can shake the current structure in two ways:

1. If businesses involved in the occupations feel they will lose consumer support, they will evolve their policies to appeal to public opinion (this also affects political policies by changing the directions of the lobbies).

2. Politicians will be more aware of the citizens they are representing, and feel more secure in countering war initiatives with an active public behind them.

AFGHANISTAN:

The Logic of Withdrawal

Since 2002, the United States and coalition forces have maintained an occupation over the Republic of Afghanistan, yet insurgent forces launched it’s most sustained assault in years just this August. Can we call this progress?

Though the wars in the Middle East will cost U.S. taxpayers 2 trillion dollars by 2010, our leaders in Washington are calling for more troops to be stationed in Afghanistan in an apparent effort to maintain the conflict there. Can the United States sustain its military efforts in light of the recent financial disasters?

Join Texas State CAMEO (Campus Antiwar Movement to End the Occupations)  for a presentation and discussion on what students can do to call for an end to the occupation in Afghanistan! It’s time to stand up to our leaders in Washington; it’s time to bring our troops home now!

Derrick Hall, Room 120. 7:00 pm.
