Western Massachusetts Campus Antiwar Network

(CAN)

The next General Meeting of the Western Massachusetts
Campus Antiwar Network is this Thursday, April 17th, at 5

P.M. in the UMass Campus Center room 905-09.  Come
by to talk about what came out of CAN's regional
conference in New York and the Winter Soldier screening last Wednesday with IVAW!  The agenda has not been set, so bring your ideas and opinions so we can all discuss what's next!

Last Wednesday, April 9th, Western Mass. CAN and the new local IVAW chapter held a panel of vets from Western Mass and  Burlington, VT, in a report back from the D.C. Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan investigations.  The event was very well attended and very informative for everyone who came.  The majority of attendees were not members of CAN or IVAW, which is even better news, as it tells us the public is starting to gain interest in the movement!

From April 4th-6th,  CAN had its northeast regional conference at Hunter College in New York City.  Western Mass. CAN brought 9 members to the conference.  The Conference itself was very well attended by students from around the region, and it was a great opportunity for all of the members present to get out their ideas and hear what others had done in their chapters.

The Campus Anti-War Network of Western MA is composed of students from UMass Amherst, Smith College, and Hampshire College. We are actively working on building bridges with other anti-war students at high schools and college campuses in the area. If you are an anti-war student, contact us! If you're not a student, but would like to collaborate with us, please contact us as well!

The Campus Anti-War Network of Western MA is committed to building the student anti-war movement at all campuses in the Pioneer Valley and beyond. We are incessantly discussing new ways to build the anti-war movement, whether it be through protest, education, petitioning, lobbying, or direct action.  Because CAN is founded on democratic, grassroots practices, we encourage new students to get in touch with us and/or come to our meetings so that we can work together towards bringing the troops home.

Current Projects Include:

  • UMass Iraq War Divestment Campaign
  • Study Group of Dahr Jamail's 'Beyond the Green Zone'
  • And much more!!!
