Four female teenagers in Lansing, New York were targeted for their participation in a "Die-In" in December of 2002 where they occupied an Army and Marine Corps recruiting office along with 9 other adults to protest the then-upcoming war in Iraq. The women were sentenced with either a $250 fine or four weekends in jail, and they chose to suffer jailtime. The teenagers were given 'youthful offender' status, which usually results in a softer sentence; however, in this case, the county lessened the adults' charges to trespass violations and sentenced them to a $100 dollar fine or six days in jail, giving the teenagers a stiffer sentence than the adults.
